My name is Melissa. I'm a college student and a writer. I take that title very seriously.

But really, I'm a happy girl. I love to smile, and I love a good laugh. I love to laugh all the time, and I think I do a pretty nice job at that. :) My favorite season is summer, with its heat and cherry popsicles and fireflies and dark, deep twilight. (On that note, I am not so much a fan of the Twilight series.) I love Japanese food, violins, pianos, fashion, reading, and the feeling you get when you catch someone singing and they don't know you're listening. I love romance, but over the years I've changed from a hopeless romantic into a romantic realist. (It's a chore, let me tell you.) The things I love to do, besides write, are eat and sleep. And sleep and eat. And frolic around in the grass.

Portfolios are technically supposed to be collections of things that you want to show off so that people will hire/praise/critique you. This one is a little different. Usually people pick their best works to put into a portfolio; I just put everything I've written that I deemed fit for public viewing onto this website. If I was really making a portfolio, half of these wouldn't make the cut. I am proud of my writing, but I'm nowhere near perfect--at all. I am still learning, and I will be for a long time. But the only way I'm going to be able to learn is if I keep on writing, and if I look back at everything I've done to see what I should change and what I shouldn't. So if you read something and thought, oh this is horrible why is it here? Well, I probably think it needs work too. But it's there anyway and it's for my own personal benefit.

Why did I make this "portfolio" then? The thing is, a lot of people ask to see my writing, but printing out copy after copy is a little troublesome, and also wastes trees. So this was the alternative. I also made this portfolio to see just how much my writing has changed since the beginning of my career, when I started writing short stories and poetry for others to read, and now. And in the end, it all comes down to organization. I am not a tidy person, it has to be said. Except on the Internet.

Lastly, the title of this website comes from Jason Mraz's song Clockwatching, specifically this line: 'lady dreamer/you might be the soundest sleeper/tonight, sleep tight/and build your nest upon my shoulder.'
